The short version
- Your photos are processed in your own browser. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
- We don't sell personal data, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
- You don't need an account to use any tool.
Who we are
EditSpec (editspec.com) provides free online image tools. In this policy, “EditSpec”, “we” and “us” mean the people who run the site. We are responsible for the personal data described here. You can reach us at hello.editspec@gmail.com.
Your photos and files
Every tool on EditSpec runs in your web browser, using JavaScript and WebAssembly. That includes resizing, cropping, compressing, converting, background removal and the Product photo maker. The photos you open and the files you make stay on your device. They are not sent to our servers or to any other service, and we can't see them.
When you download a result, your browser saves it to your device, usually in your Downloads folder or wherever your browser is set to save files. Product photo ZIP files are also made in your browser. We don't keep copies. Refreshing or closing the page clears your photos and settings from it.
AI features
Background removal and the product cutout use AI models that run on your device, not on a server:
- AI background remover (for people): MODNet, run with ONNX Runtime. The first time you use it, your browser downloads about 27 MB.
- AI product cutout (Product photo maker): U²-Net, run with ONNX Runtime. The first time you use it, your browser downloads about 58 MB.
These files are downloaded from editspec.com itself, not from third-party servers. Your browser then keeps them in this site's storage so later visits load them straight away. To remove them, clear this site's data in your browser settings.
To make the first use quicker, the home page and the pages that remove backgrounds start downloading the AI runtime in the background once the page has finished loading. This is skipped if your browser asks sites to save data, or on very slow (2G) connections.
Information we collect
Technical information from your browser
Our site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information when your browser requests a page, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested and the time. This is needed to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse. Cloudflare's handling of this data is described in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab).
Usage statistics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics and Umami to see how the site is used, such as which pages are visited, which tools are used, and whether a download was made. Both work without cookies and don't track you across other websites. We see totals, not individual people. We never collect your photos, file names or anything you type. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, Umami doesn't count your visit.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we use your email address and message to reply, and keep them only as long as needed to deal with your request.
Cookies and storage on your device
We don't set advertising or tracking cookies. EditSpec stores two things in your browser, and neither is sent to us:
- your light or dark theme choice (local storage);
- the AI model files described above (the browser's cache storage).
Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies to protect the site from attacks and abuse. They aren't used for advertising or tracking.
Why we use information
- To run and protect the site: delivering pages, preventing abuse and fixing problems. This is in our legitimate interest, and yours, in a working, secure site.
- To improve the tools: learning which pages and tools are used, from statistics that don't identify you. This is in our legitimate interest.
- To reply to you: when you contact us.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent personal data. We share it only with service providers that run parts of the site for us, and only as needed for that job:
- Cloudflare: hosting, security and web analytics.
- Umami: usage statistics.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or EditSpec.
Where data is processed
Our service providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where the law requires it, they use recognised safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, to protect it.
How long we keep it
- Photos: never received, so never kept.
- Technical logs: kept by Cloudflare for a limited period, under its own retention policy.
- Emails to us: kept only as long as needed to handle your request.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the EU and UK GDPR, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 and California privacy law, you may have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct or delete it;
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it;
- withdraw consent where we rely on it;
- complain to your local data protection authority.
To make a request, email hello.editspec@gmail.com. We'll reply within 30 days. Because your photos never reach us, we hold no copies of them to access or delete.
Children
EditSpec isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS, and your photos never leave your device, which removes the biggest risk. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the little data we handle.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change significantly affects how we use your data, we'll say so clearly on the site before it takes effect.
